Prism Zero, an air conditioning solution. It offers a smart and efficient way to control the temperature in your home or office, allowing users to save on energy costs while still staying comfortable. Prism Zero is designed to be easy to use and comes with features such as remote control and scheduling options.
The Challenge
The team was tasked with launching a multitude of features within a limited time frame. However, during user interviews, it became apparent that some users were feeling overwhelmed by the extensive offerings. Further validation was provided through Google surveys, which revealed that 40% of users felt that the abundance of features made the experience complicated.
The Process
Features of the app were broken down into Epics, divided between product teams, and then planned into agile sprints. During each sprint, we worked on several parts of the experience and included regular testing to validate the design.
Working rapidly, initially in wireframes as the design system was put together, we then started to build out flows with a growing library of components.
Defining the Epics
After testing prototypes and shortlisting the priority we landed on the following Epics for the first release:  Onboarding users, Virtual Remote, Insights Dashboard, and Personalized Routines.
Mapping User Flow
Prototyping & Testing
Incorporating a card-based dashboard design, I identified key user features through dialogue, crafting initial cards that mirrored these needs. This early interaction provided essential feedback, refining our design and directing the project's trajectory, ensuring the final product closely aligned with user expectations and requirements for a tailored experience.
The team conducted 2 rounds of user testing and multiple iterations within the internal stakeholders for the dashboard project to evolve. Along the way I worked with the engineering team, understanding the limitations of time constraints given the short timeline.
The Outcome
The final result was a simple, clean, and visually driven single-page dashboard that showed only the most important features and allowed users to dive in deeper when required.

Challenges and Compromises
My two main obstacles:
Establishing a shared understanding of core user needs and defining a set of features that accurately reflected these needs.
Developing a high-quality user experience for the Home app despite a lack of in-depth research.
Bringing these challenges to fruition involved collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders across different areas within and beyond the organization, all of whom had to reach a consensus on a common taxonomy and overall user experience. At this stage of growth, the organization has yet to establish the importance of having a dedicated research team and so the team often had to make decisions without the benefit of research validation or usability testing.
